The Weasel demo launches a Telnet window with instructions inside. You
can disconnect anytime by quitting your telnet application. If you get
a "connection refused" message, it just means someone else is using
the demo system, so please try again later.
Once you've sent
the Weasel's "attention character"(control 6), you are free to reset
the PC, reboot the Weasel itself, and generally screw around as you
please. To send an "F1", type the key sequence <control><shift>
6 x F 1<return>.
To try the PC Weasel PCI, just click on the Realweasel logo below. Viewing
pleasure is maximized if your telnet window is at least 80x25.
Note: The behaviour of this demo system is abnormal in one respect.
We suffered persistent problems with users setting BIOS passwords despite
our polite request not to do so, and this was interfering with others'
ability to play with the demo. To deal with this nonsense we connected
the Weasel's reset output to the motherboard's "Clear BIOS NVRAM" jumper
as well as the motherboard reset input (which is normally what it connects
to). This solves the BIOS password problem, but does have the side effect
of clearing out all the other BIOS settings as well every time the PC's
reset is asserted. Obviously, this is not what happens in a normal installation.
Note
to Windows users:
The Windows
telnet client is broken.
Special
note to hard-case geeks:
You're
right - there's no way to actually prove that this is a real
demo rather than a very clever simulation. We understand the Turing
test as well as the next guy, and we've thought about it a lot. You're
just going to have to trust us that it was easier to put a Weasel in
a chassis than it would have been to fake it.
