Application Note #7

Red Hat Linux v9

April 3rd, 2003

The Red Hat 9 install CD enters a graphical mode even with "linux text" at the boot prompt. The correct way to boot with a Weasel is:

   linux text nofb

Also, if there is no mouse plugged into the mouse port when Linux boots, then the keyboard will not function correctly. This happens with a regular keyboard as well. The fix for this is:

   cd /etc/sysconfig ; mv mouse mouse.original

To prevent the occasional random colored garbage from appearing on the screen during certain parts of booting and shutdown, you need to disable Linux from uploading console fonts to the Weasel. The following command will take care of that as well:

   cd /etc/sysconfig ; mv i18n i18n.original
